Dublin Airport welcomes today’s announcement by Lufthansa that it is to add a fourth daily service on its Dublin to Frankfurt route this winter.

The additional daily flight means that Lufthansa’s service between Dublin and Frankfurt will increase from 21 to 28 flights per week representing a 30% increase in capacity when the winter schedule begins at the end of October. This is Lufthansa’s sixth expansion of its Dublin services since 2014.

Welcoming today’s announcement, Dublin Airport Managing Director Vincent Harrison said: “Lufthansa is one of our longest-serving customers and I am delighted to see the airline expand services further from Dublin Airport to Frankfurt this winter. The increase in capacity is testament to the popularity of Frankfurt and the onward connections that they offer and will provide further flexibility and choice for consumers.”

Announcing the additional frequency Andreas Koester, Senior Director Sales UK, Ireland & Iceland, Lufthansa Group, said: “Dublin has continued to shine as a key market for Lufthansa within our network.  The demand for our services has continued to grow and we have been able to increase capacity accordingly.

“This, along with the recent introduction of Lufthansa’s double daily service between Dublin and Munich and the twice weekly service between Cork and Geneva with Swiss, reaffirms the Lufthansa Group as the biggest foreign Airline Group in Ireland.  This growing demand for seats on our flights proves once again that discerning travellers appreciate the way Lufthansa has responded to the challenges of the travel market in the face of ever-increasing competition.  To maintain the leading position in our market we must be better than anyone else in terms of reliability and innovation at a competitive price.  Our passengers also know that when they book with Lufthansa they are guaranteed to receive our high quality on-board service.”

The Lufthansa Group, which also includes SWISS and Eurowings currently has 65 weekly departures from Dublin Airport to Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Geneva, Munich and Zurich.

Lufthansa has been operating at Dublin Airport since 1972 and has carried almost 6.3 million passengers on its services since then.

So far this year, more than 10.9 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport, a 6% increase compared to the first five months of last year.

Dublin Airport has welcomed and additional 640,000 passengers between January and May.

Dublin Airport has direct flights to more than 185 destinations in 41 countries operated by a total of 47 airlines.
